Can music heal chronic back pain?

音樂能醫治慢性背疼?

Autonomic nervous system is responsible for controlling our blood pressure, heart beat and brain function. It reacts sensitively to music.

When slow rhythms are played, our blood pressure and heartbeat slow down which helps us breathe more slowly, thus reducing muscle tension in our neck, shoulders, stomach and back. Apart from physical tension, music also soothes our psychological tension in our mind.

In other word, when we feel pain, we become frustrated and frightened which tenses up over hundred muscles and makes us feel painful. Listening to music regularly helps our bodies relax, thus helping to relieve and prevent back pain.

Moving on to song choices, classical music is the most suitable one, for example Beethoven and Mozart music. Calm and slow music is also thought to help.
