Dad Sold Assets to Support Her Dream... 9 Years of Persistence Led to This Moment ❤️

Have you come across Nene Royal, the 16-year-old from Phuket, Thailand, whose America's Got Talent audition has been taking the internet by storm? Her powerful rendition of The Cranberries' "Zombie" is impressive enough—but the story behind it is what truly moves the heart.

A Father's Sacrifice

Nene's father, Narong Amlai, reportedly sold family assets to finance their trip to the United States for the audition. His decision was an act of faith in his daughter's ability and a determination to ensure that an international audience had the opportunity to hear her perform.

This wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. Nene started playing guitar at age 6, teaching herself by watching online videos. For 9 years, she practiced relentlessly, busking at local night markets in Phuket to build her confidence and stage presence.

Tribute from a Thai National Artist

Nene's story moved Thailand's National Artist, Surachai "Nga Caravan" Chantimathorn, who composed a poem honoring the father's sacrifices. Rather than presenting Nene's achievement as the result of talent alone, the poem emphasized the family bond, sustained practice, and parental sacrifice that helped create the opportunity.

From Street Busker to Global Stage

Nene started playing guitar at age 6 after missing the deadline to join the computer club. By age 9, she was performing at Phuket's night markets. Her father rode a motorcycle to take her to practice, her mother accompanied her every weekend regardless of weather, and the family supported her through every step.

To help Nene reach an international audience, her father enrolled her in an international school to learn English, building connections with fans worldwide rather than only in Thailand—a decision that proved invaluable for her AGT journey.

Before AGT, Nene had already won second place in the 14th Overdrive Guitar Contest in 2023 and received an Outstanding Player award at the King Power Band Competition in 2025.

The Moment She Turned Around

When Nene finished her performance and turned to see her father crying at the side of the stage, every sacrifice and every moment of hard work was instantly worth it.

The judges were blown away—Simon Cowell praised her "authentic" vocal tone, and Howie Mandel called her a true "rockstar".

This is so much more than a performance. It's a family's story. It's a father's unconditional love and belief in his daughter's dream.
