9-Year-Old Celine Tam’s AGT Golden Buzzer: The Voice That Shocked the World
9-Year-Old Celine Tam’s AGT Golden Buzzer: The Voice That Shocked the World
In 2017, a 9-year-old girl from Hong Kong walked onto the America‘s Got Talent stage. She sang “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.” When she finished, the judges pressed the Golden Buzzer.
Her name was Celine Tam. This video is where her AGT journey began.
Why This Performance Matters
1. It’s not just “good singing.” A 9-year-old singing a song about loss and longing — but her voice carried an emotional weight far beyond her years. The judges didn‘t just hear technique. They heard a child’s genuine understanding of the lyrics.
2. It moved parents around the world. Many parents said after watching: “I heard my own story in her voice.” On the surface, it‘s a love song. But for parents, it’s about “what happens when my child grows up and leaves?” That “empty nest anxiety” is a universal emotional struggle in modern families.
3. It’s a demonstration of “a child speaking through her voice.” I tell parents all the time: singing isn‘t just technique. It’s when a child stands on stage and uses her voice to say something adults don’t know how to say.
Why I Want to Share This
Because I‘m Celine’s vocal coach. I watched her start singing at three, and I watched her walk step by step onto the AGT stage. This video is a moment of her growth — and one of the proudest moments of my teaching career.
