Let Your Child Fulfil Their Potential Through Singing: How A Girl Found Her Own Voice And Language -- Annie's Story (Part 1)
Every parent dreams of seeing their child grow up and be successful: not only academically, but to also be a confident, expressive, cultured individual. At Sing and You, we believe that music is not just an extracurricular activity, but it is also a tool to help accelerate your child's well-rounded development.
Today, we want to share with you Annie's inspiring journey: this student went from being a shy singer to a confident performer, transforming not only her voice, but her entire future.
From a Silent Amateur to a Fluent Communicator
When Annie joined us at three years old, her parents had two wishes: one was for her to learn Cantonese to fit into the new living environment of Hong Kong, and the other was for her to learn English to better express herself bilingually. Like many kids growing up in a multi-lingual family, Annie knows two languages, but not enough to speak fluently.
Through a course combining both Cantonese classics and English pop songs, Annie not only learnt how to sing, but she also learned how to feel the language. We use immersive, lyrics-focused teaching methods to help her learn the pitch, rhythm, and emotions of both languages naturally. Within a year, her parents noticed how she is able to speak more fluently and confidently both in school and at home.
"Singing not only taught be how to use my voice to deliver music, but to deliver messages as well," Annie recalls. "Now I can easily switch between Cantonese and English in both singing and speaking."
From the Stage to Band 1 Schools: How Performances Create an Outstanding Portfolio
Annie's improvement in singing brought her opportunities to perform in school-based and local events and shows. Every show she attends improves her stage presence, articulation, and bond with the audience. These are all communicative skills that the top schools in Hong Kong look for.
When applying for primary school, Annie's portfolio stood out. Her performance skills showed creativity, discipline, and leadership skills. Through music, she also improved her grasp on the Cantonese and English languages, showing her cross-cultural communication potential. Therefore, when her family got the notice that she was accepted into a Band 1 school, they were not surprised. The application team even specifically commented on her "outstanding artistic and communication achievements."
"We never thought about how many more doors learning singing can open," Annie's mother shared. "This is not just about talent, but the confidence, focus, and pride she received through this journey."
